GGMMMU ~ Representing hoodoo practitioners with an interview is Jennifer Snyder

Jennifer Snyder lives in North Carolina were she spends most of her time writing New Adult and Young Adult Fiction, reading, and struggling to stay on top of housework. She is a tea lover with an obsession for Post-it notes and smooth writing pens. Jennifer lives with her husband and two children, who endure listening to songs that spur inspiration on repeat and tolerate her love for all paranormal, teenage-targeted TV shows.
SHATTERED SOUL was my debut novel and no, you haven’t seen the end of me yet…

Jennifer is representing magical beings with a hoodoo conjurer in the following interview. Thank you Jennifer :-)

Is there a technical term for Hoodoo practitioners? They are called Conjurers.

What is the difference between voodoo and hoodoo? Voodoo is an actual religion, while Hoodoo is a group of magical practices…

What do you envision their greatest ability to be? Hexes…they can hex someone like nobody’s business! My favorite is the Hotfoot spell. It can make anyone you don’t want around anymore leave town in the snap of a finger.

Would you consider your “monster” to be good or bad? A Conjurer can be both, because just like in nature, both good and evil can be found within their workings. Not every spell or form of root magick is targeted toward someone for death or destruction, Conjurers can use their powers for healing and helping as well. It’s solely up to them and the situation.

What is their greatest enemy? Themselves, depending on how they chose to live their magickal life. What they do is all about balance, and if they screw with that balance, they’d better watch out.

Choose three of the following and tell us what your creature would do with them, make out of them, use them for or what reaction they would have to them: an apple, an gemstone, a silver chain, a fish, a rat, a deer, a toad, a piece of pizza heavily dosed with garlic, a flower, treasure belonging to someone else, fire, a spider, a worm, a ball of string, a microphone and speakers, a wooden club, a mirror, a book, a cemetery, a boat, a moonlight bonfire, a sunny afternoon, a walk through the forest on an overcast day, a wooden stick, a Popsicle, a broom, a tree, a lost person, a baby, a body of water, a cross, a cage, wolfs bane, a rock, a rubber band, a chicken, a rabbit, a cave, rope, or a piece of candy. This is interesting! I would love to see what Theo, my main Conjurer in The Tethered series, could do with a gemstone, a spider, and a fire! My thoughts are that he would probably create some Hoodoo spell that would grant him the stealth of a spider. I imagine him placing this essence of a spider inside the gemstone so he could carry it with him, after he rolled all three in the fire and said a few incantations, of course.  ;)

What scares you? Loads of things scare me, I’m not going to lie and say nothing, but keeping with the theme of Halloween I have to say clowns. IT by Steven King ruined me! Seriously creepy! That scene in with the little girl staring down the sink drain still holds the power to make me cover my eyes and shout at the TV “Get out of there! Don’t look down the drain!”

What is your monster most afraid of? Honestly sometimes, and in certain situations, people. When ruled by greed or revenge, people can be monstrous in the Conjuring business.

What type of candy would you be apt to grab? Give out for Halloween? I’m a candy corn lover! I think it gets a bad rep at Halloween for some reason.

What is your favorite type of monster to write about? Read about? I’m a sucker (pun intended) for anything vampire. While I haven’t written about vampires, yet, I have read a ton about them over the years. All the Anne Rice books are my favorite! Of course I have mad love for Spike from Buffy, Damon from Vampire Diaries, and Elijah from The Originals can bite me any day! I haven't discovered The Originals yet. I'll have to check it out!

  1. ohhhh IT terrified me as well...( perhaps even more because i did not see teh end so for me it's still wandering somewhere) *brr*
    i do love tea too^^;;

    i do appreciate that conjurers can be either bad or good it's makes more easy for us to connect with them i think and honestly^^;; i liked to learn what Hoodoo was with a little more precision

    Theo sound quite intelligent having teh stealth of a spider ( even if i hate those) could be useful definitively and bonus point for him... he did not create a spell where it was mandatory that he eat it^^;;

    thank you a lot for participating in this event!

  3. Oh Spike! Love him! I'm a huge Buffy fan! And I wont walk over sewer drains because of the movie it. I absolutely love and hate the movie at the same time. I was watching that movie over and over since I was probably 2. I grew up watching all the horror movies. But OMG does Pennywise the clown top the creepy ladder for me!
    Great interview! Thanks for being part of this! :)
